KU provides free and discounted software to help students reach their academic goals. In addition to software available for download to personal computers, KU also provides access to a diverse selection of software in campus computing labs. Free Software for KU Students

Microsoft Office

Microsoft Office includes Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote and more. Students can download and install Office 365 through myCommunity.ku.edu at no cost. See our Knowledge Base article for step-by-step instructions.

What’s included in Office 365 at KU?

For Windows:
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Access, Publisher, Outlook, Skype for Business, and OneDrive for Business.

For Mac:

EndNote

EndNote is a software that helps you gather, manage, and cite references to scholarly literature and materials. Download it at no cost from KU's Software Webstore.

SigmaPlot

SigmaPlot is a statistical data analysis and graphic visualization package that is part of the Systat software family. Download it at no cost from KU's Software Webstore.

Maple 17

Maple is a statistical software package for advanced mathematics. Download it at no cost from KU's Software Webstore.

MathWorks MATLAb

MATLAB is a high-level language and interactive environment for numerical computation, visualization, and programming. Minitab

Minitab is a statistical package that provides a broad range of basic and advanced data analysis techniques. It includes regression techniques (general and logistic), analysis of variance, experimental design, control charts and quality tools, survival analysis, multivariate analyses (principal components, cluster and discriminant), time series, descriptive and non-parametric statistics, exploratory data analysis, power and sample-size calculations. Read&Write

Read & Write is a comprehensive educational tool designed to support reading, writing, research, and studying for all students, particularly those with reading and writing, learning disabilities and who are learning English. Read&Write customizable toolbar provides reading, writing, studying, and research support tools within familiar applications, such as Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Adobe Reader and web browsers. SigmaPlot 14

SPSS

SPSS is modular, tightly integrated, full-featured statistics software for the analytical process, including planning, data collecting, data access, data management and preparation, analysis, reporting and deployment. Download it at no cost from KU's Software Webstore.

Antivirus Software
Sophos Antivirus is software that detects and removes malicious software on your computer. Always be sure to have antivirus software installed and up-to-date on your personal computers. Software in Campus Computer Labs

In addition to the free and discounted software available to students for download, KU IT also provides free access to a wide range of software in public campus computing labs. For example, students can access the Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, etc.) in all public campus computing labs. 


KU's Virtual Lab

KU's Virtual Lab allows students to remotely access some of the most popular campus computer lab applications for free using a laptop, desktop computer or mobile device — anytime and anywhere they have an Internet connection.
